SERENDIPITY

SERENDIPITY

Welcome to the world of “Serendipity,” a collection of musical stories that reflect my personal journey of discovery and expression. As an oboist, this debut album represents the culmination of countless years spent exploring the depths of my instrument and the limitless possibilities of musical arrangement.

In crafting the arrangements for each piece on “Serendipity,” I found inspiration in unexpected moments and chance encounters with melodies that lingered in the recesses of my mind. The oboe, with its hauntingly beautiful voice, became my companion on this artistic odyssey, allowing me to breathe new life into familiar tunes and unearth hidden gems.

In addition to my own arrangements, I am also proud to bring to light an original oboe work that has never before graced the ears of an audience. These arrangements, along with the original composition, mark their world premiere on this album.

“Serendipity” is not just a collection of melodies; it is a personal narrative told through the voice of my oboe. Each note is a reflection of my passion, a snapshot of the serendipitous moments that have shaped my artistic sensibilities.

I invite you to join me on this intimate journey, where my oboe serves as a companion, guide, and storyteller, weaving a tapestry of sound that is uniquely mine yet intimately shared.

May the music of “Serendipity” resonate with you on a personal level, inviting you to discover your own moments of serendipity within a musical conversation that transcends the boundaries between me as an artist and you as a listener, creating an intimate connection through the shared language of sound and emotion.

With deepest musical regards,
Serol Yapici

REVIEWS

On his debut album Serendipity, oboist Serol Yapici offers a glimpse into his personal journey of discovery and expression through a delightful collection of musical stories. With the enchantingly beautiful sound of the oboe, he breathes new life into well-known melodies and reveals hidden gems.

“Album van de week”, NPO Klassiek — The Netherlands

The choice of Serendipity as a title for oboist Serol Yapici’s debut album makes sense, given his description of it as a snapshot of the serendipitous moments that have shaped his artistic sensibilities. But remove one syllable and you have a title that perhaps even better captures the project’s character: Serenity.

Textura — Canada

The underlying idea behind these arrangements was not only to breathe new life into familiar melodies, but also to uncover hidden gems. The arrangements are heartwarming, as are the interpretations: atmospheric, imaginative, highly musical.

Aart van der Wal, Opus Klassiek — The Netherlands

Serendipity takes in arrangements of pieces by a wide range of composers, plus Cor De Groot’s Deux Figures Pour Hautbois et Piano, the only work here originally written for the instrument. It is a beautiful, reflective and superbly recorded programme of music.

Andrew Everard, Hi-Fi News — Great Britain

Various famous melodies delivered through the oboe’s melancholic tone and in high-quality sound. Serendipity is a musical journey reflecting Yapici’s personal path of discovery and expression, exploring the oboe’s profound depth and the boundless possibilities of musical arrangement.

Tokyo M-Plus — Japan

SEROTINY

SEROTINY

The title, Serotiny, comes from the botanical phenomenon in which certain plants release their seeds only after an external trigger.

In a similar way, Serol Yapici’s arrangements on this album seek to reveal new possibilities within the music, allowing it to unfold as a new seed through the voice of his oboe.

All tracks are world premiere recordings of works never before performed or recorded on oboe, with several featured on Spotify and Deezer’s Classical Music playlists.

Several pieces explore a new sound concept, combining oboe and felt piano together, an innovative instrumentation within classical music.

Alongside familiar repertoire, Serotiny highlights rarely known hidden gems of classical music.
